MINUTES OF CONFERENCE AT
MIDLAND HOTEL, DERBY. 2ND FEBRUARY 1921.

WORKS AGENDA.

(1) Question of new parts being brought in simultaneously in U.S.A. and Derby etc.

Agreed to raise this question again on CJ's return.

SALES AGENDA.

(1) Reduction of Output.

This question was raised and attention drawn to BJ's memo BJ13/H1.2.21.

Agreed that BJ. Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} C. and EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} should prepare a statement to assist CJ. on his return in about a week's time, should he consider a further reduction desirable.

(2) Reduction of Establishment Charges in each department.

Agreed:-

(a) That each department should be prepared within a week, with a scheme according to BJ's memo, referring to cutting down establishment charges by one-fifth.

(b) That the suggestion of asking the staff to agree to a reduction of bonus or remuneration be brought up at a Derby conference at an early date.

(3) Progress of Goshawk II.

(a) It was stated that possibly everything from the Design Dept. would be in the Experimental Department by the end of March. It was shown that this delay would effect the original programme by two months, and that deliveries of chassis to Sales would consequently be in October instead of August.

(b) Central Controls. The final design of control levers not yet received from R.{Sir Henry Royce} The question was raised as to whether a passenger could get past these controls easily; the Design Department promised to bear this question in mind, as it is of great importance that an R.R. car should not be worse than other cars in this respect. It is also very desirable that there shall not be much room wasted between the hand brake lever and the change speed lever, as this
