-5- thickness of the material over the keyway and where the fracture occured is about .04" greater [REDACTED] in the case of the sand cast wheel. I think there is practically nothing to chose between the strengths of the materials used in the three wheels, and that the difference in the loads at which fracture occured is due to this thicker material. The hand wheels used for the test have been returned to the Experi- mental Dept. The die cast wheels of course are very much cleaner in appearance and would no doubt take less preparation than the sand cast wheels. | ||
