In reply to EH/HP24632. outlinings the criticisms of the J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} 3. concealed luggage grid when inspected at WW. we now send herewith our reply, and R.{Sir Henry Royce} sch. 3547. shewing several modifications desired. We are replying to E's memo. by numbers:-

(1) We think Works should tell us the best way of attaching the felt or rubber strips and pads.
(2) We have prevented this by a stop.
(3) This also is prevented by the adoption of a stop.
(4) We agree to this.
(5) We do not agree that a foul here is shewn on our R.{Sir Henry Royce} schemes, but perhaps the clearance - which was rather fine - has disappeared. Greater clearance could be achieved by -
(a) reducing handle size,
(b) moving threaded rubber stop forward as much as possible.

(6) Since people like Humber and Hillman use rivets for friction, and we are often told to admire how clean and cheap their work is we think we ought not to abandon the rivets in the hinges until we have tried them.

(7) We have added a stop here.
(8) We do not think this matters. If the hinge friction is adequate it will not happen.
(9) The inner or forward dowels have been shortened.
(10) The strength of the apron construction which follows that used by coachbuilders will be tested with the rest of the car.
(11) We have modified this stop.
(12) The protruding hinge knuckles are unfortunate and unavoidable. Now, (struck through) all the grid protrudes above the apron.
(13) The torsionally flexible lid{A. J. Lidsey} has been stiffened by making the top bar of rectangular section by welding.
(14) We do not wish to add a handle at this stage.
