Bn.{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington} from EP.{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}2/F9.3.20. X.34616 Re. Mr. Salamanca's criticisms on design of X.3910. Rear Shock Absorbers. With reference to your memo. Bn{W.O. Bentley / Mr Barrington}15/W25.2.20 we have now received intimation from our Fitter Entwistle to the effect that he experienced no difficulty in fitting the shock absorbers, over and above that which he expected and which he was advised of before leaving. He pointed out that the shock absorbers are fitted exactly in accordance with the design, and the parts supplied to him were quite satisfactory to meet the requirements of the drawing, and no bending or alteration to the parts was necessary. He explains that Mr. de Salamanca's criticism of bent levers is correct in so far as the lever is slightly bent as per the design, and this appears to be worse than it is when fitted on the car, especially when the rear wings are not fitted, and we understand that Mr. de Salamanca ran the car about at Nice for some time during his experiments, without the rear wings being fixed, which will also account for the shock absorbers looking more pronounced than would be the case if the wings were fitted.
