Re : Battery Service - Peto & Radford.
Chassis 77-LK{L. King} - George Lee Esq.

We received a complaint from this owner dated January 5th, in regard to the Peto & Radford Battery on his car.

A new battery was asked for, and the old one was sent back to P & R for repair.

The customer however, desired to retain the new one and asked if any allowance could be made for the old battery as he felt that it should not have given out in so short a time.

The chassis in question was finally tested (and presumably the battery put into commission) on the 24th of August 1923. The battery has, therefore, been in use 28 months.

P & R state that the positive plates are worn out and that the battery is very little use to them for second-hand stock. The most they can allow for the old battery is 10/-. They do not make any statement that the battery has been mal-treated in any way, and on the face of it, it does not look as though P & R batteries are giving the service we expect. Do you agree?

We have not yet offered 10/- credit to our customer as we are somewhat afraid he may consider that we are not treating him fairly in view of the cost of a complete new battery i.e. £11. 17. 6. such a cost is increasing the maintenance charge of an R.R. Car.

In this instance, P & R.{Sir Henry Royce} have asked us if we would let them deal with our customer and they will negotiate direct with Mr. Lee to a satisfactory settlement. Presumably they do not wish us to take part in this discussion.

Whilst on the battery question, we would also like to point out that our Travelling Inspectors are invariably recommending our customers to go direct to the battery makers for attention and this may at times be the cause of our not getting to know the experience of our customers with batteries of different makes.
