Telephone: WHITEHALL 2345 (26 lines) 20th July, 1936. Your Ref: Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}21/KW. Messrs. Rolls-Royce, Ltd. Derby. Dear Sirs, With reference to your letter of the 9th inst. I confirm our Engineer's call at your Works when the question of the car entered for the Tourist Trophy Race by Mr. E.R. Hall was discussed with your Messrs. Salt and Matthews. Dealing first of all with the question of raising the compression ratio of the engine by machining material from the lower face of the cylinder head, it is agreed that it will be in order for you to do this, it being quite understood, of course, that by so doing a change of the head shape will be brought about due to the elimination of the portions that at present form an anti-chamber or turbulent type head. Regarding the inlet ports, it is agreed that it will be in order to polish these out, which operation will naturally increase their internal diameter somewhat. Our Representative, however, confirm that the diameter of inlet and exhaust valves must remain as in the standard production car. Yours faithfully, F.P. Armstrong SECRETARY. | ||
