STARTER PROTECTION.

Replying to EFC6/AD61129., I suggest you connect up the green lamp with the ammeter as fig. 1. (in your memo.) At the same time fig. 2. would be quite possible because the little earthing switch for the magneto could take on the duty of earthing the green lamp.

At first I thought it was difficult to carry out your fig. 2. without some special switch, but if I am right in thinking that your modification can be carried out with only simple alterations to the switch, I would connect it that way, (as an alternative.)

One of the ideas I had was that the oil operated control could be arranged in the starter actuator and so not demand any more electric contacts. The oil operated sylphon in this idea pushes down the armature of the hold off magnet, but I cannot see how we do this with fig. 2.

We do not achieve all the 4 advantages we are aiming at, namely, (1) to prevent the starter being engaged while the engine is running, (2) to indicate the loss of oil pressure, (3) to prevent the ignition being accidentally left on, so running down the battery, (4) to prevent attempting to start the engine without turning on the ignition.

To obtain these 4 points it seems necessary to keep to my original connections shewn in your fig. 1., though fig. 2. gives us the 3 most important advantages, and something towards the 4th.
