Re. sample of Compressor Oil submitted by Mr. Robotham 17.9.26.

The above sample of oil has been examined with the following results :-

Specific gravity at 60ºF ----- 0.894
Closed flash point ---------- 187º C
Total acidity -------------- 0.1%

Viscosity.

Temperature at which test was made.    Time of efflux in seconds.
55ºF    ---    810
80ºF    ---    340
100ºF    ---    183

The oil at four degrees below freezing point centigrade was found to be considerably thicker than at normal temperatures but still poured quite freely.

Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} has further requested us to make a curve of the Viscosity at varying temperatures. This will necessitate the obtaining of ice to perform further tests at lower temperatures but we hope to let you have a copy of the curve before the week-end.
