To DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} x4038 Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/RmL/LG10.11.27. TELEGAUGE. x8760 With reference to your note re. the vent pipe on the telegauge. Herewith is Claudel Hobsons reply on the points in question. You will see that we gain nothing from the vent pipe as we use it at present because if a man chooses to wrap rag round the nozzle of his filling hose, he will still build up a positive pressure in the tank. We think, as far as we are concerned, that we can run without it and are carrying out experimental tests to prove this point. The main question appears to be to ensure that the red liquid will not overflow the top of the gauge when the tank is filled up to the top of the filler.
