FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}132 shows the wider front brakes for B.111, incorporating cast iron drums with cast-in pressed steel backplate and standard Girling type steel shoes 2¼" wide. These shoes are exactly the same as those shown in FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}125 for the rear brakes. The adjuster housing, plungers and screw are standard New Hudson pieces, except for the addition of the adjustment restriction previously fitted by us and shown in G.CD.250. The expander plungers are standard New Hudson pieces. The housing is interchangeable with their standard piece, but has certain modifications and can be made from the same casting as the one shown in FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}125, the machining being different. A new expander wedge is required as compared with N.Sch.5191, but the rest of the brake operating links, levers, etc. are not altered from our latest practice. The leather cover and its outer retaining plate are unaltered, but the inner retaining plate next to the dust excluder is modified to take the different stud positions of the expander unit. The pivot and bearings are not altered, nor are the various hub bearings and their attendant parts, but the hub is modified from that shown in FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}122, the modification consisting in moving the brake drum attaching flange so that it bears the same relation to the brake shoe centre line as on the rear brakes of N.Sch.5178. This means that if the rear brakes of N.Sch.5178 are converted to take the standard Girling type shoes, the same drum can be used front and rear. The fixing of the 1.75" dimension from wheel centre line to brake shoe centre line also implies that the drum and pressed steel wheels of FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}125 can be used on the front of the car for B.50 if a suitable hub is designed, and a scheme for this will eventually be done. The brakes shown in this scheme FD.{Frank Dodd - Bodies}132 are required for the second and subsequent B.111 chassis, but it is not intended that they should be fitted to 1-B-50, at least at the outset.
