------------------

We are returning to you under cover of
our advice note No.4136, the dynamo removed from
the 3 1/2-litre Bentley chassis, B.178.CR.{Mr Cra???ster / Mr Chichester}

The owner' complaint is the dynamo will
not charge until the engine has been running 5 or 10
minutes. Our Shop report state this car has previously
been into K for the same complaint.

It appears that oil gets on to the brush
gear and the brushes become tight in the brush boxes, causing
black commutation.

We are sending the dynamo to Works - serial
J.7.ES,-for examination and correction.

Defective Contact Breaker.

You may or may not, ere now, have received
a report from the above owner on his breakdown on the
road near Lincoln at approximately midday on the 20th
inst - he having got in touch with W with a view to them
sending a man.

The complete story as far as I have been
able to ascertain from him is as under:-

The car had been going remarkably well on the
way South and just before reaching Lincoln, without any warning
the engine stopped and refused to start. He attempted with
the aid of an A.A. scout to fathom the mystery and eventually
got in touch with some Garage people at Lincoln and they
were equally at sea.

He then got in touch with W who were sending
a man out by road. In the meantime the Garage man had
discovered that the trouble was due to the platinum
point of the contact breaker where spot welded to the arm,
had come adrift.
