It would be necessary to make a new throttle casting complete and we would recommend that the connection between the throttle and the induction pipe is raised as much as possible; it should be at least 1.0 to 1.5" higher so that a better hot-spot could be got in. The exhaust heating pipe would pass between the cylinders and have push-in connection on the throttle, we believe the quickest way to get the exhaust back would be to take it straight down under the crankcase. We certainly recommend that a simple form of control should be put into the circuit of the hot spot. There is a loss in power with the hot-spot and we find that the loss is more when a good quality of petrol is used. We consider that a simple type of butterfly valve, which could be turned, if necessary with a spanner, would be all that is required. We consider that this exhaust heating hot spot on the throttle side of the engine is of great importance. We cannot recommend any other form of hot spot which we have tested on our engine so far.
