R.R. 235 a (100 T) (S.F. 575. 16-4-19) G.{Mr Griffiths - Chief Accountant / Mr Gnapp} 2354 x.46 Memo. from Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} c. to Dy{F R Danby} c. to EH c. to RH.{R. Hollingworth} c. to MN. Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}8/NJ18.12.19. Marston's Radiators. Referring to the complaint that the black finish of the radiators supplied by John Marston Ltd. is very poor and not comparable with the same work done by ourselves, we have to-day had a visit from Mr. McCormack, representing Marstons, and said gentleman has explained that the coat of paint which they, as radiator manufacturers, apply to the radiators is merely a priming coat and it is not the custom of the trade to do anything more than this; in fact they (Marstons) are not equipped to do anything more. Messrs. Marston's standard practice is to give radiators a priming coat of pearl grey paint and Mr. McCormack declared that this was their practice in pre-War days and added that radiators supplied to us in pre-War days were delivered in that condition. This statement is borne out by the evidence of our own inspector. Marstons are quite prepared to continue to give the radiators a priming coat of black paint should we prefer same to their standard pearl grey paint and they will also endeavour to get a better covering than they have got on some of the radiators delivered, but they are not prepared to undertake to finish the painting of the radiators, as this is outside the practice of their trade. It would, therefore, appear that if our Test Dept. require the radiators painting in the manner we have been doing them that we shall have to continue to do the work ourselves and at our own expense. I should like a decision to be taken with regard to this matter as soon as possible. Wd.{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead} | ||
