o.{Mr Oldham} Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/FJH.{Fred J. Hardy - Chief Dev. Engineer}5/MH.{M. Huckerby} 16th. March 1938. Messrs. Attwater & Sons, Hopwood Street Mills, Preston, LANCS. For the attention of F.Attwater, Esq. Dear Sirs, In our letter of 4th. February we mentioned that we were redesigning our larger timing gear. We have now completed our design and attach prints EW.1729/30 showing the complete gear, and EW.1730T showing the centre as it will be sent to you. As you will notice we have adopted a steel centre with teeth forged on the outside similar to the Ford gear. We have not shown machining allowance on the bakelite gear but leave this to your discretion. Will you please let us know whether you have any criticism of the design and whether your original quotation still holds good for this revised gear. If you consider the design satisfactory will you please prepare a single impression mould. We will proceed with six centres for sample mouldings. We return herewith your Ford prints for the loan of which we thank you. Yours faithfully, for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
