BY/NS.{Norman Scott} c. to Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} 1044 DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}11/G.10.3.38. 1155 BENTLEY 50. TIMING GEARS AND FRONT END OF CRANKCASE. Please receive herewith :- E.CD.464 Camshaft Gear and Front End Drives. Bentley 50. This design shows the front end of the crankshaft including the damper and belt driving pulleys for fan and dynamo, also the front end of crankcase and the camshaft driving gear are shown. Further particulars of the wheelcase will be shown on a later design to be issued shortly. It should be noted that there is no spring drive for timing gears and the crankshaft damper with belt pulleys is mounted solidly on crankshaft nose. The final dimensions for damper flywheel, and also the number and stiffness of the damping springs will be determined by experiment. The shape of the wheelcase is such as to allow easy conversion of timing gears to chain drive; full particulars of the alternative chain drive will be given on a later design drawing. Will you please detail and instruct experimentally. DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
