We beg to acknowledge receipt of yours of the 9th inst., with reference to the above subject. We note that the latest filtering elements are at present under test in France and we look forward to your report on these in due course. You will no doubt remember that it was considered unsafe to start in production with the duralumin filter elements until some extended test had been carried out. We simply mention this as it has been arranged to produce the first 50 filters with brass elements and these have gone through most of the machining operations, but we shall be pleased to change back to the dural elements, as we find that it is not so difficult to remove the fraze from the edge of the dural plates as it is on the brass plates. We are doing all we possibly can to make the gap sizes consistent, but we do not think we have made any improvements on this first production batch over the 3 elements that you are at present testing.
