Mr. W. A.{Mr Adams} Robotham,
Rolls Royce, Limited,
Derby, England.

Dear Robotham:

We have received the sample S.U. carburetor for which many thanks. Incidentally, we received a bill for three pounds, five shillings from R.R.Limited which was apparently a "no charge" statement for customs purposes but R.R. have not developed a habit of marking these things "n.c." so as to make such matters clear.

Do you expect us to pay you for this carburetor or don't you? Incidentally if you do (business conditions being as they are) Heaven help you.

Gilbert says he will run tests on this and we will let you know what we find.

Have you swung a Phantom II? If you have any figures on K²/AB for a five-passenger sedan of this model, I would appreciate having them.

I am working on the general proposition of shifting weights around in the car to do something with the mass distribution and the parallel with what you did on Phantom II would be very interesting.

You will be interested to know also that Delco have revised their shock absorber testing rig along the lines used by Studebaker, that is, using the mounting shaft as a torsion spring to indicate loads. They have now got away from the flat topped diagrams which have always worried us and are getting diagrams distinctly closer to the type which you found on the Delco shocks. However, we still believe that some of the waves shown on your diagrams of oil pressure are more or less fanciful and indicate waves in the oil pressure line rather than actual occurrences in the shock absorber.

You might thank Harry Swift for his letter and say I shall be writing him shortly.

Very truly yours,
Maurice Olley

M.{Mr Moon / Mr Moore} Olley
