EAC.7. STEERING.

We quite appreciate that you want to deal with the geometry troubles on this car by adding friction to the steering column, but as the question has been put up to R.{Sir Henry Royce}, we rather doubt whether he will be satisfied with this as a permanent solution.

We have looked into the question of improving the geometry and have prepared a drg. which we are sending to R.{Sir Henry Royce}, shewing how the geometry can be made perfect on the bump, and reasonably good on the rebound, with the side steering tube straight in the side elevation and only slightly set in the plan.

It involves slight modifications to the steering box to give more clearance, and a modified lubricating arrgt. on the rear front spring anchorage, but neither of these we think should present any real difficulty.

If this proposal were acceptable you could either use the present damped pendulum lever shortened, or you could put on a plain pendulum lever, but without altring the position of the steering box.

Since writing the above we have had your note re. spring anchorages. We know something can be done with this and will investigate. We don't know yet which will present the simpler solution.
