The new battery bracket sent over could not have been thoroughly gone in to. It first fouled the subframe cross member which has had to be cut away due to the altered shape of the bracket. The flange of the bracket being the opposite side has brought the bracket 1/4" approximately further forward which has made it necessary to bolt the box to the outside edge of bracket. This causes an overhang of the bolt which we hope will stand up to the job.

We cannot get to drill the chassis frame without taking the subframe off. The tie stay fitted to frame has again worn allowing the battery box to swing about and rattle. We have made two new brackets and tie rod increasing the bearing diameter which we believe will stand up to its job. Thewhole of the battery suspension will have to be thoroughly tackled. Col. Hawkins informs me that there have been several cases over here of a similar failure and they have discarded our suspension altogether and fitted a couple of steel bands round the box.

The car is now finished and ready for the road. We shall leave here midday for Chateauroux and finish our mileage.

The side steering tube sp{Mr Spinney}-rings have not arrived, therefore it is useless for me to hang about here waiting as we know from experience that it is always a weeks job for the tax delivery of parcels from Derby. We shall call here on our way home - we can then tackle the whole of the steering job as complained of.
