For your information we are enclosing herewith copy of our instructions to the shop, reference Bm-1, of April 3rd outlining the course to be followed in checking over the springing of finished L.H. PII cars after the body is mounted. We propose to continue our present practice of weighing the complete car without passengers immediately before delivery as a check on the springs fitted. The rule we give takes account of axle weights and the distribution of passenger weight in the various models. As more models are added, we shall have to extend these formulae. In addition to this we propose to measure the spring frequencies of all finished cars, at the start and continuing for a time till consistent figures are established. In this way we shall have a very good check on the springs instructed, and shall hope at a future date to be able to tell you the flat weight of springs we want on each chassis instead of the body weights which are never entirely satisfactory. Yours very truly, Robert B. Burton Chief Engineer - Chassis Div. RBB/VB Encl.1 | ||
