X.1238 C.F.E.C. W/S To C. From Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/TMW. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/TMW3/LG.3.1.21. X 1238 RE. RAPSON TYRES. We have made full enquiries about the above tyres coming off the rim but the case you quote in your C19/C 23.12.20. is the only one we can trace. We have examined Mr. Evans's report to the Test Dept. which concludes - "The matter is being inspected by the Rapson Tyre people, and as it is a Barker Car, they will do the necessary with regard to getting Mr. Rapson to have a look at this; and will let you have a further report on this letter". Up to date, we have not received this and we suggest that Mr. Cowan should ascertain what Mr. Rapson said about the tyre coming off Mr. Chance's Car. The fact of a proved instance of one tyre coming off the rim and the inner tube pulling the valve out, is an additional argument for not fitting Rapson, although cases are not unknown of similar occurances on other makes which use security bolts especially if the tyre should be a little over-size or have been stretched in putting on, which may have been the case in this instance.
