RADIATOR CAP.
X.7250.
X.5250.

With reference to the danger of bursting radiators with the new caps discussed with you in Derby we send here-with a modification which we propose for immediate use - LeC. 2899. - in which the inner rubber washer is cancelled and one of the metal parts of the valve is altered to pro-vide more clearance for the cap washer.

The cap washer dimensions we are always supposed to have used are wretchedly inadequate and we find on inspecting the cars here do not agree with practice.

These washers we have here are 1.875" bore and 2.325 outside, as against 2" and 2.25" on the detail, and the undercuts in the caps are correspondingly large.

We propose for the present to carry on with LeC. 2899., but for future new design to extend the seating face for the outer washer over the annular relief passage so that we can use a much larger washer.

There is one example in use here of a cork washer lined with thin copper which appears to retain its elasticity well.

Please return blueprint of LeC. 2899.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
