Water Pump File

Messrs. Rolls Royce Co. Ltd.,
DERBY.

Dear Sirs,
Attention - Mr.Steadman.

We acknowledge receipt of your letter of the 8th. inst., regarding water pumps, and are arranging to forward, under separate cover, the parts required. These will be marked "for the attention of Mr. Steadman", and comprise 1041446 and 1041485.

The water pump shaft and bearing which you will receive is of "New Departure" manufacture, the bearing portion, race and ball sizes etc., being their stock size for a similar bearing they supply to various manufacturers for water pump use. The shaft is to proportions to suit our particular pump.

Messrs. Skefko of Luton have supplied us with experimental bearing units of the same type exactly, but are not yet in a position to supply in production quantities.

We would emphasise the importance of not allowing water to come into contact with the felt seals of the bearing, as our experience has shown that whilst this seal is adequate as a grease seal and dirt excluder, hot water may leak past in small quantities under certain conditions. If this occurs the grease within the bearing is liable to emulsify and be lost through the seals.
