(2) Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} reports the water jacket end covers to LeC.5200 are of no advantage. Experimental have not made a test of the Chevrolet type of coolant jet as they say present cooling is satisfactory. It is left for design to make provision for these on new heads for incorporation if found an improvement. The long wheelbase Phantom III with wider dash should be checked for increased air flow under bonnet. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} to report on experiments to obtain reduced under bonnet temperatures. The scheme for transferring the radiator stays to rear of matrix is fitted to 35-EX. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} is of the opinion we can do without radiator steam valve and is experimenting accordingly. Phantom III - Valve Gear. The scheme for obtaining quiet valve operation without using hydraulic tappets is fitted to 35-EX. The Wilcox-Rich device for recording actual valve lift curve has been instructed. Recommendations are now finalised for overcoming top overoiling and wear of push rod mechanism. E/JNR.{Charles L. Jenner} to issue instructions. If hydraulic tappets can be deleted the present valve springs with load reduced should be satisfactory in Swedish wire, and will be tested accordingly. Experiment with modified cam form of smaller base circle diameter to go on. It is understood the special formers are ordered. Experiment with cam form of present base circle diameter and reduced positive acceleration to go on. Mobiloil Arctic is recommended for eliminating valve gear sticking with cold starting. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} reports oil consumption O.K. [Handwritten notes in left margin] Steadman Edwards. Where is this. Sewell. Delivery promised? | ||
