Status update on the development and testing of various Phantom III engine components.

(3) Handwritten: Gen. Please use two. Phantom III Crankshaft and Flywheel. Crankshaft with four balance weights to LeC.5230 is awaiting forgings. The scheme for flexible flywheel on Phantom III is now issued. (Query - What is the dynamic balancing device on front end of crankshaft). It is hoped to use Hycro for crankshafts if price not prohibitive. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} asks for a quotation for quantities to be obtained. Phantom III Connecting Rods. Connecting rods with forged RR.56 big ends to LeC. 5123 on .125 smaller crankpins are on continental Phantom III. 35-EX fitted with improved white metal big ends. Phantom III Pistons. "L" shaped rings reported O.K. on Phantom III and will be put forward for standardisation. Phantom III Crankcase Ventilation etc. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} reports no change observable with and without ventilation system in operation on American cars. Experiment to continue. Phantom III - Carburetters and Induction Pipes. It is agreed that a cold air intake scheme is still required. Alternative design of R.R. carburetter should now be dropped. Phantom III Engine Mounting. Experiments with high front end mounting proceeding on Bentley and results will be applied generally when known. | ||
