| [Handwritten top right] 261 JS{Mr Johnson's Secretary} S/W To Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} from Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} re Raymond Mays. Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}26/E21.7.37 Further to my Sg{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}18/E15.7.37 He proposes to bring his car in to you some time on Monday next the 26th inst. I have told him to send it along to the Experimental Dept. and say it is for your attention. The car has now done 40,000 miles and he feels it requires a little attention. He says the oil pressure system wants looking at as the pressure appears to fluctuate a lot according to the revs. of the engine, i.e. much more than it ever used to do. The following are some further points set out in a letter received from him this morning:- 1. The engine shows slight signs of loss of power, and in addition the engine is definitely not quite as smooth as previously and 'thumps' when opening out. He thinks the engine should have a general look over. 2. The trouble with the tappet adjusting screw should be looked at, and this is No.5 Inlet. 3. There is definite play somewhere in the transmission, and each time the car moves from a standstill there is rather a bad jerk, and unless driven very carefully the same jerk to a lesser degree appears on each gear change. 4. The brakes during his trip to the South of France and back have behaved amazingly well. They have been adjusted once and the car has done about 400 miles since the last adjustment. Actually the power has slightly decreased on the brakes during the last few hundred miles and the front brakes do not appear to be coming on so much as previously. 5. There appears to be slight play in both stub axles. 6. He intended mentioning before that he finds the small driving mirror now fitted to the car very ineffective. He has noticed on Bentley cars which he has seen recently that considerably larger mirrors are fitted and would be very much obliged if we could have this done to his car. Sg.{Arthur F.
