In reply to your memo. RG{Mr Rowledge}3/W91225., we return here-with blue print DES.336. shewing pencilled modifications which Mr. Royce would like you to make to Falcon 10. water pipes. As shewn it is necessary to make the water pipes occupy a position further from the centreline of the engine to clear the petrol pump. We propose to make a slight alteration to the petrol pipe joint locks, also to provide more clearance. The water pipe is joined to a 3 bolter aluminium elbow by means of a union of the RR. spherical type, having a duralumin nut. At the lower end --- the water pipe is joined to the water pump by means of a rubber joint which should be made with a short gap, since with sufficient slack in the steady bracket this joint can be self centring. A steady bracket should be provided in some convenient place as shewn, to stop any vibration which might occur in the pipe. We think it will be found necessary to move the water connection pipe on the cylinder somewhat to the rear, and somewhat higher, to avoid the water jacket cover.

With reference to F.10. wheelcase - DES.318. - Mr. Royce would like you to save as much weight as possible. He thinks the magneto driving gear can be narrower, as we originally had it on RR.E.16. and that a lighter ball bearing could be used for the upper journal of the vertical drive shaft, and also to simplify the shaft one size of serration only for the two upper gears somewhat as arranged for RR. E.16. This design it is understood may be otherwise proceeded with.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer}
