Watford EW6 type Magneto No.100081.

Reverting to your memo EFC1/T29.1.29 respecting complaint in connection with the above machine.

Messrs. North & Sons Ltd. have now examined Magneto No.100081, and below we give you a copy of their report:-

"Test as Received. Misfiring on fully advanced position.
"Examination Contacts had been adjusted, but were still
"wider than standard measurement. The timing proved to be
"9° early on the fully advanced position due to the condition
"of the contacts.
"The platinum has almost burnt away due, without doubt, to
"combustion taking place in the cam cage. There is ample
"evidence of this on the contact breaker and further we
"would point out that in our experience the only cause of
"contact flashing that will not result in engine misfire is due
"to the above. Flashing from any other trouble that would
"burn the platinum contacts will certainly cause the engine
"to misfire, and it would be worse as the magneto is retarded.
"A new contact breaker was fitted into the magneto which, when
"put up for test, proved to be up to standard performance.
"Before returning this machine we should like to incorporate
"some method of ventilating the cam cage that would permit of
"air circulating but would not aalow the contact breaker noises
"to escape. Ventilation is the only means of preventing
"combustion in cam cages".
