Car oil consumption issues and performance comparisons between different quarters and models.

December quarter shews seven cars outside the affected area, the remaining two were fitted with Aerolite pistons, of which one case was suffering from a reversed rocker rod, the other car (newly delivered) raising the oil pressure abnormally, and thus reducing the feed to the overhead gear, brought the consumption up to normal.

The present March quarter to date (24th February) shews a complete reversal of the previous quarters returns, two cars only being outside the affected area. Of the other five, one car(DK series) with extra cylinder lubrication, four cars fitted with Aerolite pistons, of which two were sent to W for rectification, one after rectification of reversed rocker rods shewed a consumption of 800.m.p.g, one car passed as standard at 800.m.p.g.

We are accepting at this Depot 800.m.p.g. as the normal oil consumption figures for these cars nowadays, although in our opinion this is a low mileage when taking into consideration the small capacity of the sump and the fact that cases of bad oil consumption were non-existent as far as K are concerned up to the june quarter of 1935.

Despite the fact that the figures (with the exception of this quarter) shew that heavy oil consumption is occurring with cars outside the affected areas, we are definitely of the opinion that the average oil consumption figure m.p.g. today is less good than that attained by the earlier cars.

The question of oil consumption never arose in the earlier days, but I am sorry to say it is with us today, especially on cars of low mileage.
