PHANTOM III - COMPLAINTS The following are the complaints during January and February:- ENGINE. No. (1) Intermittent knock, due to tappets being tight in guides. 2. (2) Intermittent knock due to hydraulic plungers sticking. [Handwritten: due clearance now std .0015 - .002] 7. (3) Over oiling due to cylinder head not draining sufficiently. Reduced quantity of oil feed [Handwritten: by restriction in banjo feed.] 12. (4) Failure of engine to switch off. [Handwritten: modification to Distribution Board to HD{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} 363] 1. (5) Oil leaks from tappet covers and rocker cover. [Handwritten: New type of joints now available for trial.] 4. (6) Intermittent failure of ignition etc. due to fault in ammeter. [Handwritten: modified ammeters supplied to all cars to depot sheet HD{Mr Hayward/Mr Huddy} 368] 2. (7) Distributor contacts bakelite cam loose. [Handwritten: This is due to shrinkage of the rubbing block, new material being tested.] 2. (8) Camshaft cams scored, new camshafts fitted. 2. (9) Overheating of engine, old type matrix. 1. (10) Broken eccentric, noisy tappet. 1. (11) Burst oil cooler, F.{Mr Friese} type fitted. 1. (12) Stud holding tappet bloc. stripped thread. Oil level indicator. 1. (13) Connecting rod bearings.
