20/25 HP Engines for Tanks

Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} referred to the 20/25 HP engine which has been modified and fitted to the small tank for the War Office. He said that it would appear that more additions and alterations have been necessary than were at first anticipated and that this must be carefully looked into as the price already quoted for engine units was a cut one and will not carry more modifications than was originally planned at the time the quotation was made unless they are of comparatively little cost.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} said that it had been found necessary in order to make a good and satisfactory job, to do more than had at first been anticipated, but that we now know everything that is necessary.

Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} instructed that the complete list of modifications be reviewed and compared with the alterations which were specified at the time our quotation was sent in, and that details be submitted to him.

In addition to this, a detailed list with estimates should be made covering all work connected with the installation of the power unit in the tank. We shall then have:-

(1) an estimate of the cost of the power unit ready to fit into the tank,

(2) an estimate of the cost of fitting the power unit into the tank including such additional parts as oil tank, oil cooler etc.

Bensport.

Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} referred to H's proposal to increase the size of engine by the addition of two more cylinders of the same dimensions, making it into an eight in line.

E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} said that technically he welcomed the suggestion and had always been of the opinion that the original proposal of an engine of about 2.5 litres capacity was on the small side
