Contd;-2- to be sure of good performance and that the bigger engine made good performance more certain. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} read Mr. Cowen's note on the reasons for deciding to go in for a chassis of the 18-HP class (reference C3/C1.1.32) and referred to the Board's decision made early in January con- firming this. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} was asked to write to R.{Sir Henry Royce} on the subject and Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} said he also would do so. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} said it was important that our original intention of producing a chassis in the 18-HP class be adhered to, because of the reasons set out in Mr. Cowen's note referred to above. In addition, it has already been announced to the public in the press that this size of car will be produced. Another point not to be forgotten is that Napiers are working on a new car and we must get ours out before them. Wor{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} said that as such a lot of design work has been done on the 18-HP he thought that by putting an extra push in the job we may have a chassis ready by about the end of June. J.III In order to preserve the secrecy of this chassis, it was decided that all experimental cars be made with left hand steering, so that it can be described as a special model for America, should the necessitya rise. 40/50 Synchro Mesh. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} enquired regarding the progress on this job and Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} reported that they were not yet satisfied with the changing operation. Several modifications are in hand with a view to effecting improvement. Rg.{Mr Rowledge} came in to the conference. Aero Engines. Friction loaded spanner. Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} said, in referring to this, that as soon as the A.M. and A.I.D. have approved of this type of spanner for we tightening the cylinder holding down nuts, we should take steps to contd; 6 | ||
