4554 Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} from Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} FOR. C. to E, Ev{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}, Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} HyB/R.22.2.35. MANUFACTURING COSTS. Another interesting comparison of cost of manufacture has arisen which you will no doubt be pleased to know of, and which does, I think, reflect great credit on our methods as regards economy of manufacture. One of our tight jobs at present is the production of crankshafts, and we have endeavoured to sub-contract a proportion of them. The firm chosen was Ambrose Shardlow of Sheffield, who are the leading specialists in this country on crankshaft manufacture, and who supply many tons of cranks per week including Morris, and Vauxhall's supply. The quotation given to us after careful study of each operation is over four times our factory cost, including all charges. The quantity offered was anything from five to fifteen per week of the 20/25 type. Hy.{Tom Haldenby - Plant Engineer} P.S. Since writing the above, we have received a further quotation from the English Steel Corporation which is actually higher than Shardlow's price. | ||
