APPENDIX,

Standard Saloon. Test 1.

Road wheel Horse Power = 92.5 at 4150 R.P.M. & 86 M.P.H.
Axle Ratio 4.1 to 1; Projected Area = 23.4 sq. ft.
Const. T.R. at 30 lbs/ton = 51 lbs. (wt. 1.7 tons two up)

H.P. due to Const. T.R. at 86 M.P.H.
= (51 x 86) / 375 = 11.6 H.P.

Tractive Resistance due to windage
= (80.9 x 375) / 86 = 353 lbs.

∴ drag at 100 M.P.H. = (35.3 x 100²) / 86² = 477 lbs.

K = 35.3 / (23.4 x 86²) = .00204.

R-35-AE. Test 4.

Road Wheel Horse Power = 118.5 at 4300 R.P.M. = 99.5 M.P.H.
Axle Ratio 3.73 to 1; Projected Area 15.0 sq.ft.
Const. T.R. at 30 lbs/ton, wgt. = 1.4 tons (two up).

Const. T.R. = 30 x 1.4 = 42 lbs.

H.P. due to Const. T.R. = (42 x 99.5) / 375 = 11.2 H.P.

T.R. due to windage
= (107.3 x 375) / 99.5 = 404 lbs. at 99.5 M.P.H. = 406 lbs. at 100 M.P.H.

K = 404 / (15.0 x 99.5²) = .00272.
