| To: RM.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} PIII Valves and Fittings Cold Starting Trouble. 11/12/36 The first 6 rockers on B side Cyl. Head on 37EX Car were fitted with RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}267 bushes, the remaining rockers were assembled as standard. After the Car had been left out for a night in the frost, the engine was started. It misfired slightly but soon became normal. The RM{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}267 bushes gave no trouble on the engine. The reason the misfiring was not so severe as on the previous day - might be put down to fact that the rocker mechanism had been dismantled and cleaned, and the bushes put back in a different position. It was noted that on 37EX Car all the rockers, bushes, and eccentrics had worn oval and that the bushes were working in one position only. A different position of such a bush would alter the working characteristics of the rocker & the eccentrics. | ||
