X4429 Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} 3/NJ7.3.22. "Goshawk 11" - Laminated Road Springs. In my note Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} 1/NJ27.2.22 I conveyed to you a message from Firths, to the effect that they hoped to deliver to us a set of laminated road springs, 550 lbs. front and 900 lbs. rear, on the 11th inst. We are now in receipt of a letter from Firths expressing regret that owing to their rolling mills having been idle last week, they will not have the material for these springs ready until tomorrow, but notwithstanding this they hope to effect delivery of the complete springs by Wednesday, 15th inst. I am sending herewith (to By) blueprints of Firth's drawings SD.500 and SD.501, giving particulars respectively of the 550 lbs. front and 900 lbs. rear springs they are manufacturing. These drawings have been traced from our own blueprints, but they show the modifications which Firths have introduced. We gather that Firths are making two complete sets of these springs and assume that one set will be of Chrome Vanadium Steel and the other of Silico Manganese Steel.
