"Goshawk ll" - Laminated Road Springs. Y4429

In my note Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} 3/NJ7.3.22 I conveyed to you a message from Thos.Firth & Sons Ltd. that they hoped to deliver to us two sets of laminated road springs, 550 lbs. front and 900 lbs. rear, on the 15th inst.

In the absence of news, I wrote Firths and have today received their reply expressing regret that the springs are not even now completed and stating they will do all they can to despatch same on Saturday, 1st prox.

From their letter we gather that there have been unexpected delays in rolling the material and in grinding the plates.

It is very disappointing.

We were under the impression that one of the two sets of springs would be of Chrome Vanadium Steel and the other of Silico Manganese Steel, but we now learn that both sets will be of Chrome Vanadium Steel.

They (Firths) desire to know whether we wish them to take in hand two further sets of Silico Manganese steel. I suggest that we should not order further springs until we have had an opportunity of examining and testing the two sets of springs now in hand.
