v254 To E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}15/KW. 8.9.34. Halford Type Silent Tappets. Halford has been making suggestions to lighten the valve gear so that it will be possible to run up to a higher speed when using his type of tappet without increasing the valve spring load. In view of the fact that on the high power head when the valves are not all in line it may be difficult to get the Cadillac type of tappet, we are continuing to take an interest in the Halford type tappet and send you herewith his suggestions.
