Messrs. Armstrong Siddeley Motors Ltd.,
COVENTRY.

Dear Tresilian,

How are you getting on in your new job ?

I spent the week-end with Devereux and he came in his new Lagonda. He announced that it would do 115 miles an hour so I had a bet of £5 with him that it would not lap Brooklands at 100 miles per hour. I hope to collect the money before he forgets about it.

He made some very interesting remarks about the price of aluminium after the War and spoke of 6d. a lb. as a basic figure.

In view of this fact we are going to put a lot of light alloy on our experimental cars with a view to "cashing in" on the weight saving if the price reduction materialises.

I got dragged into the aircraft engine racket at the beginning of the War but hope to get out shortly and go back to some sensible peace-time project before very long.

A relation of mine, I.C.North of British Filters Ltd., Aircraft House, Market Harborough, tells me that your Installation Engineers are going to run one of his by-pass filters on a flight test. I am rather interested in this as we have had very good results from by-pass filtration on our car engines and are actually using his products. We have one of his full flow filters on the Merlin at present.
