COPY OF LETTER RECEIVED FROM:- MESSRS C. A. {Mr Adams} VANDERVELL & CO, LTD., WARPLE WAY, ACTON VALE, LONDON. W. REF: EL/DM. {D. Munro} Messrs Rolls Royce Ltd., Nightingale Road, DERBY. 22nd November 1921. X 4338 Electrical Equipment for Goshawk 11. Dear Sirs, In reply to your communication of the 21st inst (reference Wd {Mr Wood / Mr Whitehead} 6/NJ211121) and also yours of the 11th inst., (reference Wa {Mr Wallis} 15/NJ111121) concerning the Electrical Equipment for the above, we have pleasure in giving the following information. Dynamos. Type "DB {Donald Bastow - Suspensions} ". Details of these are quite in order, and can be supplied in accordance with your Drawing No. D.50204, and will be arranged as insulated machines. Starter Motors. Type "SC". These can be arranged for earth return wiring system. We note the alterations made to the end bearing brackets as per your Drawing No. D.50253PC, and will make these modifications accordingly. This will enable us, as you state, to decrease the outside diameter of the carcase to 4.500". Regarding the depth of the spigot, we shall have to ask you to accept this at .187" instead of .200", as the latter would foul our field windings. We thank you for enclosing Blue Print No. D.50466 showing the outline arrangement of the Starter Motor complete with driving shaft. Starter Motor Switches. We are forwarding you under separate cover a Switch suitable for the above Starter Motors, and shall be glad to have your comments. Switch Boxes. We note your requirements in respect of this component, and are preparing a drawing showing this as we understand you require it. This is arranged for a flush mounting and has three switches, one controlling the Dynamo, one controlling two head and tail lamps, and one for side and tail lamps. We note you do not require either a voltmeter or ammeter, and the Switchboard will be arranged with a negative busbar in two portions to enable you to connect across for your own ammeter. We hope to forward you this drawing in the course of a day or so, and if approved, we will have a sample put in hand for your inspection and further remarks. (CONT'D) N.M. 358(A) THIS IS B'S REF.
