2. The minimum length which the winch should be capable of accommodating should be 3500 ft. As much cable carrying capacity as possible should be foreseen without wrecking design. 3. Original specification is insufficient as far as range of cable angle is concerned. The minimum vertical range to be 200° (instead of 90°) and the minimum horizontal range 120° (instead of 90°). This is most important as otherwise the cable will come off the rollers. 4. Gap between rollers to be 1" to allow knots to go through without breaking the cable. 5. Guards to be on all rollers where cable is not under constant tension. Guard on main drum to be easily detachable. 6. An automatic drum brake to be fitted. This brake to be controlled by the cable tension. Arrangement to be made to override the automatic brake by hand or foot when necessary. 7. Throttle to be operated by left hand, to be sensitive and to have adjustable damping. 8. All levers to be in such a position that easy operation is possible without taking left hand from throttle. 9. Speedometer to be driven by cable and not by drums. This gives true cable speed independent of drum diameter. 10. Drivers seat to be open. Driver to be protected by wire cage. contd. | ||
