Martindale}1/JH. Exptl Dept. 19th May 1936. A.F. MARTINDALE Messrs Rolls Royce Ltd., Derby. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. Martindale. re: Oil Level Gauge for E.R.Hall's Bentley. In reply to your undated letter, we very much regret that we do not understand the position. In the first paragraph you refer to our "2 wire" instrument and we are unable to trace any record of this. With regard to the layout of the single wire sump unit Y.47142, we consider that the float is amply large enough to operate the contact arm, in fact we have supplied large numbers of this type and even smaller floats to other customers. Furthermore, we are unable to see how it would be possible to accomodate a float having four times the volume of the one indicated. In addition we do not see how it would be possible to mount the float on the other side of the sump unit without fouling the rib which runs right across the sump. We suggest that you try the sump unit as shown on drawing Y.47142 taking care to see that the float does not foul where indicated on our print, copy of which was sent you under cover of our letter of the 16th inst. If you are unable to agree to this proposal we shall be glad if you will let us have revised drawing EB.2861, or alternatively a sump in which we can try out an instrument ourselves. Awaiting your further comments which will receive our best attention. Yours faithfully, for S. SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES) LIMITED. C F Russell ELECTRICAL ENGINEER. To avoid delay all envelopes should be addressed to the firm. | ||
