GOSHAWK 11. STEERING COLUMN. X.4264. We send herewith N.sch.1279, shewing the plain thrust on steering column as modified by Mr. Royce. It will be seen that it is proposed to attach it by a taper to the tube instead of by the parallel fit and woodruff keys as shewn on N.sch.1260. In view of the fact that the centre hub is not positively stopped from turning, it has been necessary to revert to the original method of locking the nut, but a greater number of slots and jaws has been shewn so as to give a finer adjustment. It will be necessary to experiment with the oil ways to make sure that this thrust is adequately lubricated. It is understood that these plain thrust proposals are experimental, and it will be necessary for the Expl:Dept: to send us a result before it is decided to go on with them Da. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} | ||
