To Hs. {Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Da. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} X.4264. Da {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} 3/M19.5.22. GOSHAWK 11. STEERING COLUMN SUPPORT. X.4264. Mr. Royce would like you to make a test of the steering box to shew whether it is the racking of the frame which has caused the box to break. Mr. Royce would like you to mount a steering column on its trunnion tube and attach it to the dashboard in a manner similar to that on a car, and then vibrate the end of the trunnion tube which is normally attached to the frame. This should shew quickly whether the fracture produced is similar to that on the box we have, and should be an indication as to whether this is the force which is doing the damage. Da. {Bernard Day - Chassis Design} [Handwritten text on diagram]: FIX HERE AS ON A DASH BOARD THIS END FIXED STEERING ATTACHED TO CROSS TUBE AS ON CAR. THIS END TO BE VIBRATED IN A VERTICAL UP AND DOWN DIRECTION. | ||
