-2- Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}5/KT.17.2.33. on any other cars. We do not think it is serious as most gears tend to work either in or out. We think it is the least of the evils that it should come out when the load is removed. Re. Loss of oil from front bearing. It is possible that this is due to having too much oil in the box. Brakes. We know of no means of preventing water getting into the brakes. The brakes on the car were alright when it went away. It is not unusual to have a bias in braking. The question of foot pressure is simply a matter of opinion. When reading the reports from France one has to remember that the whole idea of running the car out there is to criticise it. If we took one of our new cars as delivered to customers, we should get a similar list of criticisms. The real worry we have on Peregrine is the carburetter and induction pipe. The modified pipes which we have produced so far have not overcome the trouble of poor distribution, and this is the real cause of high petrol consumption. We can obtain good consumption with two S.U. carburetters - 17 m.p.g. - and of course equal if not more power. We are trying further modified induction pipes, but we may have to decide, if we stick to the single R.R., to increase the working depression and reduce the power. We don't want to do this because we have an engine that will stick up to high speeds and we want to use it. Once we are out of our carburation difficulties we can see our way through.
