X4551 To R.{Sir Henry Royce} from BJ. Copy to Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD} Copy to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Copy to Bx. Barker Trials Car. Referring to your R1/M21.11.28, I think we are all in agreement that there is room for a great deal of improvement in the Barker head lamp dipping device. It is very useful to be able to dip and shine the light on to the near side, and although S. always want to avoid overwhelming WW with too many detailed requirements and improvements, they are most anxious to adopt an RR lamp scheme to give these new results, when there is time for it to be considered. We know you are very fully and usefully engaged upon far larger and more important problems at present, and we can get along for the moment by using the Barker scheme which seems to be the best on the market just now. CWB tells me that the Barker mechanism fitted to the car you examined was not quite their usual standard and one which we do not usually fit. We can show you a standard fitting when you are in London or send one to WW if you would care to see it; but even so we know you will find it (as we do) far from perfect. BJ. | ||
