Dear Sirs,

I am sorry to have delayed so long in replying to your letter of the 29th May but hoped to have the result of further testing the original set of N.S.5. bearings.

This test, however, was broken down for other reasons and the bearings are more or less in the same condition as when first inspected with the exception of the narrow bearings, one which appears to be on the point of breaking up and looks like faulty adhesion on the steel shell.

We will send you a photograph of them in their present condition, in the course of a few days.

The endurance they have run is now 28 hours, but to be really an advantage over whitemetal we expect to be able to run 50 hours under our special conditions. The conditions under which this engine ran are at speeds between 4000 and 4500 r.p.m. the maximum bearing load being in the neighbourhood of 2000 lbs/sq.in. Oil inlet temperature at 100°C. and using Price's Motorine C.

We should be pleased to have any helpful information regarding the following:-

(1).Effect of oil temperature on corrosion.

(2) Whether any particular type of oil should be used.

(3) The adhesion quality in comparison with Whitemetal.

(4) The cost of N.S.5. in comparison with Whitemetal.
