Dear Robotham,

In reply to your letter regarding Lucas Starter Drive Rubber Cup.

We had a fair amount of trouble with these when we first adopted them due to slipping, but they are on the whole quite satisfactory now, although Service report that they do get a few cases of failure on older Cars particularly after engine overhaul, when the Starter has presumably rather more to do due to the engine being somewhat tight.

Am sending you two of these Drives which have failed in this way to show you what happens.

Although as you will see from the above these Rubber Drives are not giving perfect service, they have done us a tremendous amount of good in eliminating bent Starter Spindles and cracked Starter Housings.

I understand that Lucas have what they claim to be an improved type over what we use at present, but that we are unable to fit it because of lack of room.

Yours sincerely,

MCWilks
