Re Steering Wobbles with 7" Palmers.
-----------------------------------

With reference to steering wobbles and the 7"
Palmer tyres, there is no better way of dealing with this
than by letting the works have a pair of Palmer tyres to
experiment with. They should be fitted on to a car where
the steering has been fitted up particularly free, though
not with much back lash. An experiment might be made
with centre point steering, and with the wheels as far
away from the centre as we have ever fitted them. This
would be very interesting and provide us useful knowledge
of how to deal with awkward cases.

The second point to test would be the entire
removal of all elastic connections between the road wheels
and the steering wheel, except the unavoidable bent
longitudinal steering tube. Even this might temporarily
be made more rigid. I am assuming that the pivots are
to be used with the normal loading of the car exactly
vertical. It must be remembered however, that with a
car very heavily loaded behind, a backward lean would come
in, which might start up steering wobbles if the cause
is very sensitive.

With reference to creating a little friction in
the steering gear, this, one feels, should be applied on
