To J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} 2. R2/IB26615. the steering worm shaft, because ones arms in holding the wheel, are rather like an elastic connection resisting the movement almost entirely without friction. Why the largetyres should give more trouble in this respect,is somewhat of a mystery. Being heavy they would naturally have a slower period, and being large in diameter under heavy air pressure, they would have rather a point contact in place of a line with smaller tyres and lower pressures. In fact it would appear that steering wobbles may develop when the front tyres are pumped hard. There is plenty of room for experiment in this direction, which could be well carried out on our track at Derby, as it requires a hard surface and does not require a fast speed.
